FDIHC Host Stanley Cup & White House
On
Thursday, September 10, 2009, some members of the Fort Dupont Ice Hockey
Club, in conjunction with the National Hockey League, hosted the 2009
Stanley Cup winner, Pittsburgh Penguins at the Fort Dupont Ice Arena.
The Stanley Cup was on display. Pittsburgh Penguins Sidney Crosby, Bill
Guerin, Jordan Staal, Marc-Andre Fluery and Brooks Orpik held an on-ice
clinic for the kids. Other guest clubs were Kids-on-Ice Hockey Club and
Hockey in the Hood (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania). After the clinic the kids
posed for photographs and received autographs from the Penguins
players. Willie O’Ree, the first African-American
player in the National Hockey League, was also a guest.
At the end of the day, the kids boarded a bus for a visit to the White
House where President Obama honored the Penguins for winning the |
2009 Stanley Cup. Unfortunately, the kids were unable to meet the
President personally. In spite of that, a good time was had by all.
